WHAT
"LUNAR DRUMS" is a new musical interface inspired by Taiko, a traditional Japanese drumming form. The musical and design aspects of our drum have been reinterpreted to encourage people to maximize their body movement while playing, creating pleasant interactions between performers and audiences.
IDEA
"LUNAR DRUMS" is a submitted project of NIME 2006. The idea is to make a new expression of musical interface.
INTERACTION
Using the sensor embedded drum stick with LUNAR DRUMS, the place hitten will generally illuminate and an associated note will be played.
TECH
"LUNAR DRUMS" is made out of microcontroller, LEDs, hall effect sensors and magnets.
MY ROLE
In this group project, I conceptualized the idea, refined interaction sequences, designed the look of the drum and also developed microcontroller prototype.
